At Gemma Chapman Design, we believe every space should tell a story, and our recent commercial interior design project at Dime Friday Hair Salon is a perfect example of this philosophy in action. From the moment we began, the vision was clear: create a welcoming, playful space with a sense of warmth and personality. The design process was a full-service experience, encompassing everything from colour palette creation and material selection to custom joinery design and styling.
The salon's design embraces a tonal aesthetic that feels inviting yet bold, using a refined selection of materials that create a cohesive look throughout. Arabescato Rosso marble was a key material in the space, chosen for its unique veining and warm, earthy tones that add sophistication and texture. The marble’s rich hues serve as a focal point, complementing the overall color palette.
The Resene paint colors—Sanguine Brown, Despacito, and Soulful—were carefully selected to harmonize with the marble. The deep, earthy reds and browns of Sanguine Brown provide grounding and warmth, while the soft, neutral tones of Despacito and Soulful bring a sense of lightness and balance. Together, these colors create a visually striking yet calming environment.
A significant element of the project was the custom joinery design, which helped maximize the salon's functionality while adding a sense of refinement. The bespoke pieces were tailored to the needs of the space, ensuring that both beauty and utility were considered in every design decision.
The styling of the salon added the final touch—blending modern interior design with elements that evoke a sense of playfulness. Every detail was carefully curated to create an atmosphere that is not only welcoming but energizing, making it a space where clients feel at ease and inspired.
